Well, here is what I think about the DURAMAX DIESEL Engine.

Also, If you are entitled with pre-emission systems (2003.5-2007.5)/stricter emission systems (2007.5-present), then you will be in Limp mode/Reduced power mode.
What that does is the RPMs on your engine will be at 2,000 RPM (2x1,000/20x100) & your speed will be slightly decreasing.
If you have a car code reader, then you will turn it on, & reset it!
If your engine continuously has this problem occuring really fast, then please don't think about getting a 2007.5 & newer diesel vehicle with stricter emission systems. If you delete the emission systems just to get it to be reliable like the 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel (T444E), NOTE* It is illegal to delete the emission systems & you will go to jail.
If the engine has slower rates of problems when going into Limp mode/Reduced Power Mode, then you will have a better chance of keeping your diesel truck!
