Tournament in 2019..

The bearcats back in the regional tournament tonight..

They didn't get to defend their crown last year because of covid..

But there was a lot of motivation tonight..

Kq2's chris roush with more from aberdeen, south dakota... <<fourth time...biggest time... ryan hawkins and northwest taking on washburn in the central region semifinals..=== early first..northwest down 4-2...luke waters baseline feed..and the foul..'cats take the lead..==from there..

Northwest goes on a run..byron alexander turn around j...== ben mccollum had 8 days to prepare..it's showing..==24-0 run..including..4 threes from ryan hawkins..==then..hudgins..

Steal and finish at the hoop..

==northwest unstoppable in the first half..hawkins to the hoop..draws the foul..28-7 at the one point...==brett ballard's squad not much of an answer early..ichabods able to piece together a few plays in the first half..tyler geiman to the hole..==but not a lot for the ichabods..shooting under 30 percent from the field..==what a night for hawkins not just shooting..but distributing too..luke waters underneath...bearcats up 44-16 at the break in this one...== second half..mccollum's team doesn't let up..==hudgins in the lane..gets the bucket to fall..==all a part of a 23-3 run to begin the second half..

Hudgins acrobatic play..then gets back on defense and knocks the ball out of bounds..

Don't usually see to much emotion from him..but he's fired bearcats...in complete control..==brett ballard's team doesn't have an answer tonight..as northwest goes on to win... northwest will meet top-seed northern state in the central region championship on tuesday at 7 p.m.

The bearcats won the region in 19 on their way to a national title... most siblings only dream of winning a state chamopionship but two platte valley sisters have done just that << mitchell riberal reporting (nat sound of holding trophy cheers)a perfect season...with the perfect ending..platte valley 2021 class 1 statate champions..."finally the pieces clicked, i mean, we just, we did it" -maliaand for malia and maggie collins..two sisters...fullfilling a lifelong dream of winning a state title together..

Quote:"we definitely just kind of you know, have that connection.

I feel like we feed off of each other.

Definitely.

I always know where she's going.

She knows where i'm gonna be on the floor.

And it wasn't ever hard.

Like we all have chemistry but i feel like with maggie and i it was just that much more special."

- malia malia, the senior, and maggie, a freshman...always wanted to play for a championship..after seeing their cousins get a chance to play together..our cousins do the same thing.

They had one year to play with each other and one of them got hurt.

And they didn't get to play together their senior her older sister senior year.

Although, maggie is just a freshman, she came right in and made an impact..something big sister always knew she could do..as a freshman, that's a, that's a big role.

And that's a lot of pressure.

But i'm so proud of her.

I can't even explain it.

We knew that's where we had to go.

And she's kind of filled those shoes.

She's had that role all year long.

And i knew she could do it.

- maliathe on the court chemistry comes naturally because they've always played sports together...able to play with her her senior year was so special.

Starting from when in horse on our backyard court and going to the park shooting baskets.

Just developing two.

-maggiethe collins' sisters the two leading scorers this year...fed off each other..

Picking each other up..

Whenever they need it...just knowing that someone on the court always has my back no matter what if i'm having a bad game, she picks me up.

She's having a bad game.

I pick her up, angry just feed off of each other our accomplishments, our hardships, just everything.

Winning the state together will be memory that the sisters will cherish forever... "that's something i'll never forget, you can't replace that, that's an experience, i loved it, she loved it, i'll never forget it" -malia"i looked up to maia my whole life.

She has taught me so much.

Not just about basketball, but what kind of person i need to be, her leadership has meant so much to me" a final look at your forecast is next... we'll be right next...
