We now have more information about when pregnant alabamians can receive the covid-19 vaccine.

The c-d-c says pregnant women are at a higher risk for severe illness from covid-19.

Those who are expecting - can soon expect protection against covid in phase 1-c.

Waay 31's olivia schueller learned more about the vaccine's role in protecting your child.

Disease infection expert...doctor ali hassoun...said reasearch shows that babies are able to recieve antibodies through their mothers placenta.

That can give them antibodies that will protect them against covid-19.

Heather tenneson found out her baby hannah had antibodies after she got vaccinated.

Sot tenneson it's definitely through the breast milk.

Tenneson was vaccinated while breast feeding...a few weeks after getting the vaccine...she got her newborn tested for antibodies.

Sot tenneson i thought maybe she would, i was hopeful, and i was pretty excited when she did.

Tenneson said if she were pregnant, she would've opted to get the vaccine... a way her baby could have been born with protection against covid-19.

Dr. hassoun said there's two fears pregnant women are having ...the safety of the vaccine...and possible fertility issues.

He said there's no research to support that the vaccine leads to fertility.

Sot hassoun more then nine-thousand pregnant women have got the vaccine and from these date...we haven't seen any safety issues or an affect on the baby.

If you're at a high risk of exposure to the virus and are pregnant...it's reccommended you get the vaccine....but tennesson said there's one step she reccommends expecting mom's take.

Sot tennesson i would just say talk to their doctor...that's really the best thing that they can do.
