The Allen County Department of Health has extended COVID-19 restrictions Sunday as cases surge in the community.

The War Memorial Coliseum has been feeling the effects of the pandemic since March.

They've had to reschedule some concerts five or six times, as large-scale events seem increasingly out of reach.

And county.

The allen county department of health has extended covid-19 restrictions as cases surge in the community.

Fox 55's nico pennisi tells us how the war memorial coliseum is staying afloat as large-scale events become increasingly out of reach.

Standup: for the allen county war memorial coliseum, cancelling large scale events has become routine.

General manager randy brown says some concerts have been rescheduled 5 or 6 times.

Brown "as the pandemic is so fluid, so is our calendar."

The coliseum brings in more than 110 million dollars a year that benefits neighboring restaurants bars and hotels.

This year everyone is suffering.

Brown "the sooner we can get back into business bringing large scale events the better it is for everybody.'the coliseum has been self-supporting since its opening in 1952.

Allen county auditor nick jordan says this year, that's not the case.

Jordan "historically the coliseum has operated on its fees for services or revenues it has received from its events, but obviously during the covid downturn they haven't been able to do that."

Jordan says the county council is picking up about 3.6 million dollars of the coliseum's deficit for 2020.

The money is coming from the county's general fund which comes from property and income tax revenue.

As of now, the council has agreed to pick up half of the coliseum's anticipated budget for 2021.

Jordan "if that runs out then their option is to come back before the council and ask and see what the plan is when it gets closer to then."the first quarter of the year is usually their most successful.

But it's fast approaching and minimal events are slated.

Brown "with those events, many of them postponing or cancelling, we're obviously concerned about where 2021 will land us too."in fort wayne, i'm nico pennisi fox 55 news.
