McDaniel Road bridge reopens after much-needed repair work

A bridge has reopened after some much-needed repair work.

New this morning.... officials are investigating an early morning fire.

It happened... just before one... this morning... on "south hale place".

That's a little southeast... of prairieton... in southern vigo county.

Crews found heavy flames shooting through the roof.

The red cross was also called in.

No one was hurt this week... hours... for "covid-19" testing sites... are changing.

On thanksgiving day... sites... at "terre haute regional" and "union hospital"... are closed.

The "covid-19" hotline is also closed.

Regional's testing site will close friday... and sunday..

It "will" open on saturday.

"the hotline" will also close saturday and sunday.

"the southwest school corporation" announced its "winter spectator fan plan".

That's as the county remains... at the highest level... for the spread of "covid-19."

The plan only allows athletic teams... to have fans... watch them play.

Athletes get two tickets... per player... for their parent or guardian.

That excludes the cheerleaders... dance team... and the band.

This plan is in effect until... at least..

December 2nd.

"daviess county schools" are now on remote learning... that's until... at least... december seventh.

In just two days... health officials reported 170 "new" covid-19 cases in the county.

The decision... to go remote... caught many school leaders by surprise.

While the process is frustrating... barr-reeve superintendent... "travis madison"... says they understand the decision.

The vigo county sheriff's office is looking for two armed robbery suspects.

It happened around six... sunday morning... at "maui stop and shop"... in terre haute.

Police are looking for a man... and woman.

A suspect pointed a gun at the clerk.

They ended up stealing cash and other items.... the suspects were wearing dark clothing.

Police say they appeared to be in a black... 20-20... "nissan sentra s-r."

Holiday shopping is set to surge... online... this year.

As online increase... so do concerns for theft.

"we are anticipating seeing more porch pirates this year due to the fact that people will be doing more online shopping.

For the porch pirate they don't know what they're getting inside that package, and it's just grab and go and something they can try and sell and make a profit or it's something that they could give to a family member."

Recent data..

Shows a "drive" in online shopping as a direct result of the pandemic.

Fear of in-person shopping..

Plus more time at home... behind a screen..

Means more time to click and buy.

For "porch pirates"..

This creates an even bigger opportunity to take those packages.
