Possible fix for miocene canal
A new proposal is being discussed for repairs to Butte County's Miocene Canal

A light at the end of the tunnel& or perhaps& water at the end of the canal&??

Butte county homeowners and farmers who live along the miocene canal are hopeful... they may finally be closer to a water delivery system.

Large portions of the upper canal burned in the camp fire.

In the two years since - people who rely on water from that canal - have been dry.

One of those homeowner ed cox <ed cox, miocene canal coalition: "for the forseable future there will be water int he canal and we are very hopeful that it will be somethign that is sustainable over many years as oppossed to a short term fix" pg&e's wildfire settlement with butte county - included 15 million dollars - to come up with a fix for the miocene.

Paul gosselin, the director of the butte county department of water and resource conservation, tells me there is now a new proposal being talked about.

Dir.

Paul gosselin, butte co.

Dept.

Of water & resource conservation: "the current plan is pg&e is going to repair the upper miocene with pipes, it won't be the same system, wood and corrugated steel, it will be much more resilient.

Solid steel pipe going through the ravines - we always wanted something when it was put back in place that would be resilient for the long term."

I reached out to pg&e to ask about this vision a rep would not confirmed details about the plan sayiong we are working with enginerring and construction firms to determine the feasability and cost of making repairs to the miocene canal.

Its too soon to detail what the repair plan may look like bfore the enginering is complete dir.

Paul gosselin, butte co.

Dept.

Of water & resource conservation: i think theyve had their hopes dashed before.

<ed cox, miocene canal coalition: it actually appears to be the most viable plan that has been presented to date > the pge rep told me plans are still preliminary and may change as the engineering process moves forward.

But, gosselin and cox say... the hope is to see this plan move forwardãby next year.###
