Veterans looks a little different this year.

While the u.s. takes enormous pride in our veterans and active military members - we have to switch up how we celebrate our country's heroes this year due to the covid-19 health crisis.

Kq2's kilee thomas stopped by hy-vee this morning to see how they made sure to honor our vets- safely.

Kilee thomas reportingsot: hy-vee workers- "got your breakfast for ya.

Piece of plastic ware?

Thank you for your service."

St.

Joseph's veterans and active service members celebrating their big day in style - drive thru style.

Sot: hy-vee worker- "thank you for your service."

Sot: mike basch, st.

Joseph hy-vee director- "we started at 6 a.m.

We had a line a little bit before six.

We usually do 800 - 1,000 free breakfasts today, so i think we're on track to do that 800 mark.

We thought with the curbside it might be a little less, but doesn't look like it.

We've got a pretty good crowd so far."

Hy-vee switching gears and going contactless for their veterans day breakfast bash due to covid-19.

But veterans didn't seem to mind sot: hy-vee worker- "can i offer you a budweiser for later?"sot: veteran- "yeah, for later."

Some veterans did take the party inside hy-veesharing their wartime stories - six feet apart sot: kenneth marshal, veteran- "i spent three years in germany."

Sot: steven ochse, veteran- "i was a farm boy.

I didn't even know what rock candy was"ágermaná sot: basch- "i went into the air force right out of high school.

It was a great experience, i had some growing up to do."

Sot: ochse- "in beirut, i used to sneak over to a little store and they had chickens roasted in the window.

For fifty cents, i could get a whole chicken."

Sot: marshal- "london, copenhagen, paris."

The biscuits and gravy might be the same- but the pandemic is changing how we honor our country's heroes this yearsot: basch- "the bad thing is veterans want to sit and they want to talk about their experiences in the military.

Unfortunately, with everything going on we can't do that, but hopefully next year we're back."

But veterans say it doesn't change their immense pride sot: marshal- "i'm proud to be a veteran."

"i'm glad i served my country and i'd do it again."
