Domestic violence is on the rise this year... thanks in part to the covid-19 pandemic.

News 1's patsy douglas spoke with domestic violence centers in acadiana to see how the're moving forward during this time ..

Tha's right, and alot of domestic violence centers are adjusting to this pandemicbut the resources are still there for those victims..

Sot - i's been tough year.....vo - nicole cockerham director for development of faith house, says the've had a 70% increasein victims compared to last year ..

Sot - "we are seeing roughly almost 500 people per month and that is a tremendous increase"vo - cockerham says they are also dealing with this heavy load and lack of fundraising opportunitiesbut they are still providing guidance to those in need ..

Sot - "if you know that you are going through that type of relationship, make the call becauseit can mean the difference between life or death" vo - kelli cantu, community advocate for chez hope says they are still adapting to this pandemic ..

Sot - "survivors are having to spend more difficult times than they usually do, they could befinancial, that could be them stuck in the house more due to quarantining"vo- cantu says they will always be available for victims that are dealing with domestic violence ..

Sot -'sometimes people do't think that they have resources that are available to them, so many things have been shut down or just everything different and so a lot of people think that they still have resources but they do ."reporter tag - now kellie cantu says if you are dealing in a domestic violence situation, do'tbe afraid to call or ask for help especially during this pandemic..
