Bike shortages during the pandemic

Been crazy this year this year has been crazy for many businesses due to the pandemic.

Some of them are even dealing with product shortages.

News 10's porsha williams stopped by a local bike shop to see how they're holding up.

For many ..

That meant bicycling.

So much so... it caused a bike shortage.

Crossroads cyclery in terre haute off ohio street has been open for 3 years now.

I spoke with the, owner jim mauriello today.

He says he's had trouble keeping bikes in stock.

He's also doing a lot more repairs.

He says he never could've imagined this kind of boom in business.

We've heard of toliet paper running out..

Coin shortages and much more... but mauriello says this came as a surprise.

"the manufacturers were caught in the increase demand for bikes.

There production couldn't support that initially they had to kinda play catch up.

A lot of the manufacturing facilities overseas were shut down for an extended amount of time."

Jim is still dedicated to fixing people's bikes and getting them back on the road.
