<<madeline mcclain reporting: we've been emailing back and forth with the state for a week trying to figure out why the local death tolls don't match what the state is reporting.we noticed that while nodaway county reported 9 total deaths reporting one reports 23 deaths.the state is reporting 14.and this is happening throughout northwest missouri.we also noticed this wasn't an issue of a natural few days delay in the reporting chain illustrates this -- the state report only one death there.
The county health department reported it's second death nearly a month and a half ago.
We reached out to the state to ask whether it was a coding error.you may remember the state reporting 89 deaths in one weekend -- largely because they discovered a coding error spokesperson told me no -- that it was resolved.instead it was probably that local public health officials were inputting it into the system wrong.but she would check and get back to us the health department emailed us saying the coding error was in fact not fixed -- and that between today and tomorrow there would be an update to remedy the problem.a few hours after that email -- the state tweeted that 57 deaths were added to today's total.
