In our election 20-20 coverage... state officials are warning voters about potential scammers and attempts to steal your information.

Abc 36's cody adams has more on why it's making a tough election season even more difficult.

L3: election 2020 white voting scams on the rise scammers are on the prowl as election season is in full swing.

Secretary of state michael adams and attorney general daniel cameron are warning voters about the recent scams. a group called center for voter information is sending letters to kentuckians accross the state pushing them to register to vote.

The problem is the letters are being sent to people already registered... that's creating mass confusion to voters and making it harder on election offials during an already complicated process with covid 19.

Adams says the group is out of state and says quote "whether this organization is nefarious, or just recklessly incompetent, kentuckians should disregard any communication they receive from the center for voter information."

Another scame is attacking voters through a text message from a 502 area code.

That text directs voters to a fake website ky dot reg dot come.

Don't go to that website if you receive the text.

Scammers could use it to steal information.

Attorney general cameron says if you do encounter an election related scam you should immediately alert the consumer protectioin division by calling 1-888-432- 9257 or visit a-g dot k-y dot gov back slash scams.
