Trace State Park's lake is now open again for fishing and water activities such as boating and jet skiing.

Some park visitors described their Labor Day activities at the park and how they feel about wearing masks outdoors.

Some people spent their labor day weekend in the great outdoors, which is an attractive option these days because of the coronavirus.

W-t-v-a's bronson woodruff takes us to one local state park that recently reopened its lake to see what they were doing during the pandemic on a holiday.

I'm here at trace state park, where as you can see, it is a beautiful day with few people here.

People have been coming and going all afternoon with boats and jet skiis, and some have just been hanging out along the bank fishing.

Now, we got to speak with a few people here today, and they had differing viewpoints on wearing masks while outdoors.

For simone sykes, the newly reopened lake at trace state park made a great place for an afternoon of fishing.

"we got here around 1:00.

" "we started out on the other side, then all the jet skis and boats, so we came back over here where it's calmer."

Her husband caught their only two fish so far, a couple of brim.

For pat cossey of pontotoc, she and her family comes by as often as they can..for labor day, her family had fun on the water, one of her most favorite places to be.

"playing on the lake.

Jet skiing and went out in a pontoon boat."

She has been there since friday, and her grandkids got there today.

As far as wearing a mask out there during the pandemic: "i think it's fine without it."

"we're just enjoying the weekend with my grandbabies."

For sykes, she wants to wear a mask because she said it makes her feel safer.

" i think it is necessary to wear a mask just because i don't know what other health problems other people may have, just to protect myself and others."

Reporter outro: right now under the governor's executive order, people outside in public areas are supposed to wear a mask if they can't stay six feet apart unless they are from the same household .
