Action news now reporter jafet serrato talked with a restaurant owner in redding today and asked her what this means moving forward.

(standup:) soon restaurants in redding like the one here behind me won't be just offering take out.

Soon you'll be able to go inside.

(nats: burgers sizzling) burgers sizzling.

(nats: tater tots frying) tater tots frying.

(nats: mixing tater tots) and wa la... just add some salt.

You can find it all here at the "snack shack"... in south redding.

(tammy gellis, owner) "we have a lot of people who enjoy eating here."

Owner tammy gellis... says the pandemic has hurt business dramatically.

(tammy gellis, owner) "i've lost probably two thirds of my sales.

So again its been devastating."

Gellis says her business is on life support - relying on take out and outdoor dining.

"this is no different than what everybody else is going through we are all going through struggles.

This unprecedented times.

I dont think any of us know what to expect."

One thing gellis is expecting though... shasta county getting the green light on monday for in door dining.

"i think that's very good news.

Im hoping that it may turn things around for us here."

(standup:) gellis tells me come monday she's opening up three tables to accomodate with indoor dining, one of them is right here.

The second one will be located right here next to it.

And the third table is right here in the corner.

Gellis tells me she's only allowed to open three tables so she can accomodate with social distancing guidelines.

So what do customers think of the news?

"it'd be nice to have the indoor dining.

I walk by here and it smells good i have to stop by and eat."

"i'm really big in supporting small businesses i have a business of my own."

(nats: employee grabbing bags) "we need customers.

We're balancing so i don't know if we're going to be here in a couple of months.

(standup:) gellis tells me this restaurant has been here for four decades now.

That restaurant had to close for three weeks in july because one of her employees was exposed to someone with covid-19.

She lost all her stored food... but says she did receive help from the payroll protection program.###
