It's no secret the coronavirus pandemic is leaving millions of americans financially strapped.

That's why rochester city council is using funding from the coronavirus aid relief and economic security act ?

"* or cares for economic recovery.

Kimt news 3's isabella basco joins us live from city hall to tell us more about the dollars and cents ?

In partnership with rochester public utilities... the city of rochester has developed a program to award 500?

"* thousad dollars in cares funding to help local businesses.

Here's more about the program: 400?

"* thousand dollars will be allocated to qualified small businesses.

The other 100?

"* thousand will be kept for women and minority businesses.

The businesses have to be customers of rochester public utilities.

"rpu has a much more granular level relationship with the businesses.

Because of that we want to take advantage of that, rpu does have over 5000 business accounts of which we expect over a thousand of them have been affected by covid related closures and things, and this way, we have a good way of being able to basically get a system running quickly."

Applications will be available the week of august 3rd and funding will be provided on a rolling basis.
