Meetings and surveys...the state's second largest public school district has decided how school could look this fall during the pandemic.

Fayette county presented its plan to the board this afternoon.

Abc 36's justin roth is in studio with more.

The board voted unanimously to start online following...superin tendent manny caulk's recommendation.

He says that's online is his choice because of what he's calling a "summer surge" of covid-19.

He says the virus is spreading in fayette county and it's been hard to get test results back quickly.

The superintendent made his proposal to the board this afternoon....saying non-traditional instruction...n-t- i...will be better this fall than in the spring because the district has had more time to perfect it.

It started using n- t-i for the first time just this spring because coronavirus forced schools to close.

Caulk's team also went over survey results from staff members and nearly 34,000 out of 41,000 families.

District spokeswoman lisa deffendall said those results showed a majority of families were "likely or somewhat likely" to send kids back class.

Nearly 9 thousand said they were interested in a virtual only option.

The district also considered a hybrid option of groups of students receiving in-person instruction on some days and virtual learning the rest...deffednall says that was the most preferred option on the survey.

Other districts including jefferson...the state's biggest...and franklin...in the state captiol... have already decided to begin the school year online.
