Districts across our region are planning how the new school year will look.

Reporter, karen alvarez, is live in red bluff..

She has more on what the school year will look like for tehama county.

Cliff curry is the superintendent for red bluff union elementary school district--- he says right now---bases on tehama county public health's recommendation- --the district will be bringing back its students on- campus take package: in just a couple of weeks---- tehama county school districts are planning to have students back in the classroom.

Sot(cliff curry, superintendent for red bluff union elementary school district): we are currently looking at the rate of infection now able to bring back every student, every day.

While some people favor in- person learning--- sot(edward bucker, tehama county): i really think the children should go back to school and the reason why i say that is because they need to get first-hand learning instead of sitting down on the computer, they aren't getting everything they need.

Others say it's not the safest option--- sot(donna reardon, tehama county): i don't think they should.

It's not safe.

They're saying no gatherings, but yet "go back to school" that's just not rights.

Red bluff union elementar* school district--- says it's working closely with public health to determined the best and safest option.

Sot(cliff curry): it's not really a decision point, so a lot of people thinking that schools are making these decisions.

Schools are guided by federal, state, and local guidance.

Right now--- tehama county public health recommending that students go back to in-person learning.

And superintendent cliff curry says that'll bring changes--- sot (cliff curry): every student, every day, involves classroom groups staying together.

We're going to have other mitigations include health screenings in the morning.

The other big piece of this is that all students and staff will be asked to wear masks.

Curry tells me if infection rates remain stable--- students can expect to be back in a couple of weeks.

If there's a spike, the district is prepared to switch to other models.

That all depends on what tehama county public health determines--- sot(cliff curry): nobody wants to endanger lives, these are our children of this community and so we are going to be very careful in what we do.

So if we aren't confident in that we would be remiss if we didn't follow medical guidance.

The red bluff union elementary school district says they will be offering a distance learning option for parents who do not feel comfortable sending their kids back to school.
