Baseball Hall of Fame reopening health and safety tour

The Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown opened its doors to visitors for the first time since March 15 with new protocols to allow for a safe and healthy celebration of the game.

Fame in cooperstown the doors open to visitors for the first time since march 15.

What we will do tonight is take a walk through the hall and see some of the things that they put into place to allow visitors back in the door, let's have some fun.

.

None .

None jon shestakofsky: this is our lobby space folks enter instead of three doors being able to enter we've narrowed it down to one and when people enter it is very clearly marked with what we are calling on deck circles every 6 feet to show where folks could line up if they need to queue for any reason.

We are at a 25% capacity limit and for that reason we are moving to a timed admission policy.

So we will walk through the ticket entrance area and i will show you what's new over there.

Jon: just a couple of things to show you as folks come through the line if there's a line to the ticket booth itself we've installed some new acrylic clear shields in here and in our museum store which is open we have also installed over 25 hand sanitizer locations that have set up in the museum and we encourage people to use them we have obviously washrooms as well where people can keep their hands clean.

Everyone here at the museum is required to have a mask per new york state guidelines.

Spencer: do you have free masks available for those who don't have one?

Jon: yes for those who don't have a mask when they arrive we can provide you with a one time use mask.

I'm going to hit the hand sanitizer are you doing it?

Spencer: yeah we've got to get it going.

Jon: ok, follow me to the next spot.

One thing i want to point out here is usually the space is wide open and visitors can go look from one side to another side at the different pieces of art on display.

Now we have stanchions set up to clearly indicate directionality of where visitors said should go and the idea is to keep everybody moving in the same direction and keep everyone moving in the same pace and not have people banging heads and coming together from two different directions.

Spencer: clearly it doesn't impede anything, i mean people are still able to look at the artwork and everything.

Jon: that's what we are really trying to do, follow all of the guidelines in place but create an allow the visitor experience to remain what it should be.

All right we can head upstairs to one of those exhibits.

Spencer: keep to the right.

Jon: yep keep to the right we have our signage rolling.

There is a lot of directionality that you will see.

This is a one-way area that i will grant you access to walk-through in this direction.

You can see examples of different signage on the ground in various places but i will show you right over on this side there are a number of these interactive displays throughout our exhibits.

Every visitor will receive one of these rubber tipped styluses and they will be able to use this instead so touched to begin, you hit it and it recognizes and you can follow along.

Spencer: i will show you behind you, if you look at that sign.

Jon: wow look at that, yogi!

Spencer: yogi said a lot of things and i would love to be like yogi.

Jon: you can't beat yogi, yogi is a national treasure and if he's ship saying to wear a mask then we should probably follow suit.

Spencer: i wonder how yogi would say it because you know that he would come up with something great to say.

Jon: he would say something like i don't wear a mask unless i'm wearing a mask.

Spencer: ok we will go with that!

Jon: that's my best attempt at a yogiism, i'm not yogi.

Spencer: nobody is.

Jon: this plan has everything at or exceeding the cdc guidelines and what new york state has requested.

We have had health experts come in and evaluate the plan and so the time and energy seeing all that payoff and being able to open the doors in a very safe way, slowly open the doors to a smaller group of people to come through, is rewarding in that way.

There is a lot that we are looking forward to and really only baseball can create that environment.

Spencer: yeah it's summer, baseball is summer.

Jon: exactly american summer.

Spencer: awesome john really this was great thanks for having us jon: thank you for coming thrilled to have you.

Spencer: so a fun day here at the baseball hall of fame as you were able to see plenty of procedures put into place to allow fans back in the doors.

Now there may be no induction ceremony this year but there's still plenty of baseball left to be celebrated here in cooperstown.
