Health experts all say the easiest way to stop the spread of coronavirus is to wear a mask, and some states are looking to make changes to require them.

We want to begin tonight with advice from health experts -- who all say the easiest way to stop the spread is to wear one of these -- a face mask.

But just like in the rest of north alabama - leaders in marshall county say there are no plans to make wearing a mask mandatory.

Today -- waay 31's sophia borrelli asked, "why?"

James hutcheson, marshall county commission chairman: "it should be a concern to everyone who lives in marshall county."

Marshall county commissioner james hutcheson says the commission is trying to everything it can to keep you safe.

But that doesn't include mandatory masking.

He told me it's not even being talked about!

James hutcheson, marshall county commission chairman: "this hasn't been discussed in the county commission meeting, i haven't discussed it with any of the commissioners, so i really wouldn't want to comment on that."

Hutcheson admitted that just a few hours after this warning about coronavirus in marshall county from marshall medical center's chief nursing officer!

Kathy woodruff, marshall medical center chief nursing officer: "right now, marshall county is out of control."

Health officials gave reminders to people on how to stop the spread.

Judy smith, alabama department of public health: "number 1, social distancing, stay away from people you do like, and certainly the ones you don't like.

Wear a mask, wear a barrier.

Don't splatter on me and i won't splatter on you."

Sophia looklive: "before you enter the courthouse - everyone gets their temperature checked and they also are recommending people wear masks inside.

County officials have given out more than 10 thousand masks to people entering the courthouse since it reopened."

James hutcheson, marshall county commission chairman: "i think we're doing about everything we can do."
