Explained: Amid Ladakh clash, India to cancel Chinese firm's deal for poor work

An Indian public sector unit has decided to terminate a contract with a Chinese firm amid the ongoing face-off along the Line of Actual Control.

Indian Railways' Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd (DFCCIL) decided to cancel the Rs 471 crore deal with Beijing National Railway Research & Design Institute of Signal and Communication Group over poor performance.

DFCCIL said that only 20% of the work was completed in 4 years, while also pointing out other shortcomings.

The decision was taken in April 2020.

Meanwhile, sources indicate that the government is also looking at curbing dumping of Chinese goods in Indian markets.
