This coronavirus pandemic has hit one population very hard...nursing homes.

Residents, workers and families are feeling the affects, whether it's not seeing loved ones, or trying to keep spirits up.

But a group of five people are trying to change that.

Newschannel 2's callihan marshall tells us more about "nursing home hellos from the heart".

None spreading love and putting smiles on residents face's is the goal, for five local women.

Girouard says: "because so many people are in the nursing homes in oneida and herkimer counties and cannot see their family now aqnd have contact we decided that we could get cards, notes drawings for every singlr resident in oneida and herkimer counties and send them to them."

This community project is called "nursing home hellos from the heart".

And in just a short amount of time, it's already taken off.

"we've got them already sent from texas, north carolina we have hundreds already and we started this two weeks ago."

They're hoping to get those out within the next few days.

Girouard says they're hoping to get at least 28- hundred by july third.

To help with that, businesses like rome sign company have collection bins inside, and they're running banners.

Cal says: "rome signs isn;t the only place that's collecting there are several other location across oneida and herkimer counties that are also coleecting."

You can find them at melrose market in frankfort, cooper kia in yorkville, fenton ford in camden, and nothing bundt cakes in new hartford.

All you need to do is look for these signs on the bins.

Girourd says, this small gesture can go a long way especially during this unusual time.

"and now its been over three months not seeing them, not hearing them not having that human connection with their life, it's sad really sad, break s our hearts.

Organizers say, this will also help empoyees inthe facilities.

Mahl says: "they're trying to keep these people upbeat so everybody needs to be as upbeat as they can because when you get depressed is when sickness comes.

So far the group has reached out to 21 nursing homes throughout both counties, and mahl says all of them are excited about these notes.

Again , the deadline to write a card and rop it off at the locations i mentioned earlier, is july third.
