The community is commending law enforcement and protesters for ensuring a safe and peaceful protest over the weekend.

Being recognized for keeping everyone safe during yesterday's protests and they're thanking demonstrators for being peaceful.

Utica police sergeant mike curley tells me the department credits the protesters and their relationship with the community for a quiet day and quiet night.

"i think we are here and utica certainly recognize the plate that people are going through.

The anger and the sentiment that they have.

However i don't think we have a dichotomy between utica and the police department.

We don't see ourselves as any different from any of the members of the community so therefore we integrate it ourselves with her messages and we certainly just try to uphold what they want us to do in the safest peaceful manner possible."

Nats some of the other protests across the coutry and across the area, resorted to violence, curley says the department was monitoring social media for those that wanted to incite violence.
