>> the fact that america is experiencing a flower shortage tells us about the fact that we have been eating and comforting ourselves in isolation, and the book comes at a perfect time when we'll be making dietary changes facing this global lockdown.

We're joined by a gastrohe want rot, and author of the book fiber fuel.

>> i'm happy to talk about this book.

And excited.

What do we need to know about health?

>> most digestive disorders are associated with the gut.

And so people who come to me with gas and pain and diarrhea and constipation, the root of the problem is damage to the gut.

And if we never address and fix the root of the problem, how are we going to get them better with pills and procedures?

You're just covering it up and not fixing it.

>> by ignoring it, what are some of the things that could happen.

>> you're not going to get better.

You're not going to get better if you don't fix the underlying issue, but beyond that, damage to the gut can have ramifications throughout the entire body.

It can affect your immune system, your metabolism, and diabetes and your mood.

And changes to your hormones, and it's amazing how far-reaching the problems with the gut are.

>> can that lead to stomach ulcers and things like that?

>> there are a number of ways that poor gut ways it manifest.

Crone's disease, and celiac, and acid reflux, all of these things are associated with poor gat health.

>> let's go back to the impacts that poor gut health have on the body.

You mentioned immune and mood.

And all of the things that keep us healthy every day.

So when you ignore symptoms in your stomach, you're essentially doing your entire body a disservice.

So what are some of those symptoms that you are experiencing that maybe should signal what i need to go see a doctor?

>> well, i think any person who has chronic digestive issues, it's within reason at that point to give us a call and come in so we can work on that.

But beyond that, there are things that i specifically look for.

If the person is losing weight unintentionally, if they have syptoms of animmia like shortness of breath and fatigue, if you see blood in your stool or black tarry stools, august of these things are red flag symptoms, so just come in and get checked, but if it's going on for a long time, you should deal with t.

>> i would imagine that this would have an incredible impact on covid-19.

And people should really be paying attention to their gut health so.

What are some of the things that people should be doing to ensure that they are staying healthy?

>> first of all, there has never been a more important time to pay attention to our gut health.

70% of the immune system lives in the gut.

So now more than ever, we need to be doing this, and we want to avoid sabotaging our own health with our lifestyle practices, so i notice that a lot of people are lloyd on the red wine, and i enjoy that myself, but i don't want to do it every.

>> because that can have consequences when it comes to your gut.

And the same with processed foods.

>> so the rules, the single most important thing for a healthy gut is diversity in your diet.

No matter what excite you eat, you should look to produce more varieties of plants into your diet.

And there are simple ways to do that.

It's not hard to throw on garlic and zucchini and herbs in there.

>> so people need to be conscience of t.

And we're talking about how we're experiencing a flour shortage, and everybody is at home baking and that doesn't necessarily provide fiber, does it?

>> it's basically being ground down, and basically white flour.

They're separating out the part that has fiber and this is part of the reason why white flour is basically like it consuming sugar, so we need real food, seeds and nuts and legumes, and part of what i'm proud of with my plant, this is scientifically validated.

If you eat the way i'm proposing in my book, you can eat with out restriction, when you're hungry and you don't have to restrict your diet.

And you will accomplish all of it.

>> fiber fueled, already an amazon bestseller before it's released.

You can find my on instagram and facebook as the health md.

And i have a ton of resources.

If you buy my book, we have stuff for you, and if you don't, we have stuff as well.

>> thank you v, thank you so much.

>> thank you.
