Saturdays are for the Seniors: Leo's Ashley Miller

Here at fox 55, saturdays are for the seniors..

Each week, we're honoring local senior athletes whose seasons were cut short or canceled due to the covid-19 pandemic..

Tonight, we transition from winter sports to spring... and we do so with leo high school softball star ashley miller..

Petar hood has her story..

?nat pop- crowd cheers?narr: although she didn't know it at the time, last year's 4-a state championship game turned out to be ashley miller's last as a leo 3 lion.

And per 3 usual, she was spectacular in the circle, going seven innings, allowing just no earned runs in a tough luck loss to center grove..

Ashley miller: "i'm really proud of my team getting here.

It's just great.

The community came out today, and it was a really awesome atmosphere.

Disappointing the way it ended."more disappointing is the fact that miller and her won't get a chance to avenge that loss.

And with last year's roster returning, the lions were hoping to get a chance to do just that..

Miller: "we were super excited for the season, definitely looking forward to it.

Just an amazing group of seniors we had this year, so that's definitely part of the reason why it was so sad when we found out the news.

We won't be getting a senior night, banners, or most importantly the chance at a championship."

?nat pop- home run?narr: but, even team wasn't able to capture the there's still plenty for miller to be proud as she looks back on her days in purple and black.

Her career numbers are eye-popping.

She finishes with a .494 batting average, 25 home runs and 116 knocked in.

And believe it or not, miller was even better as a pitcher.

In 71 career outings, she went 37-4 with a 0.44 e-r-a to go along with 298 strikeouts.

All of that, in just three seasons.

Miller: "oh gosh.

Most proud of?

Probably just being able to play with such amazing girls.

Being able to be part of great teams and amazing memories.

Really proud of representing my hometown of leo well, and showing that even though we're a small town, we really are a great community and can stand together and be a great program."?nat pop- crowd chanting?narr: and at the end of the day, that's what mattered most to miller.

The individual accolades were great, but her team and the community always came first.

And that, above all else, is how she wants her senior class to be remembered.miller: "i hope that we leave a legacy of hard work and determination.

I just hope that the prosperous leo softball times will continue after this."narr: in fort wayne, petar hood, fox 55 sports..

With her high school career now complete, miller is set to move on to michigan state university to live out her lifelong dream of
