Through suggestions from the Indiana Secretary of State and the Allen County Health Department, a number of precautions are being taken to protect voters from COVID-19 when they head to the polls on June 2.

Today was supposed to be the primary election, but that date was pushed back to june 2nd due to covid-19.

And now counties are taking precautions to keep you safe at t caleb s.fox 55 saylor is live to explain what election day will look like here in allen county.caleb?the primary election is about a month away now and both election officials and the health department are doing what they can to minimize the spread of covid while at the polls, but that means there will be changes.

?the voting process this year will be different from years past says beth dlug, director of elections in allen county.

E had to rethink ho do everything, including staffing, handling mail ballots, early voting, election day, handling voting machines and ipads, and even counting the vote.

Prevent the spread of covid while at the polls, the allen county election board, along with the health department has implemented a number of changes.

They widdled down the number of polling locations from 116 to just 25.

Choosing locations based on large amounts of parking and big spaces where they can place voting machines six feet apart.

And for early voting star ing on may 26th, there only one location.

Tom hardin, one of the allen county election boar explained why that location was chosen.

He reason being, primar was ecause of dr. mcmahan advice that we ought to limit the number of locations so that we can best protect our election workers and the voters.

Polling locations for voters, the voters will have hand sanitizer readily available, be given disposable gloves to sign and and to vote, and will be spaced six feet apart in line.

Poll works will be given ppe, plexi-glass shields to work behind or a face shield, and regularly clean off all of the high touch surfaces.

Despite all of these precautions, election officials and the health department are encouraging you to vote by me would simply prefer registered voters to simply apply for an absentee ballot and conduct their business via the mail dlug says this year, they will hand count all the mail-in ballots, which could delay officials results anywhere from three to seven days.
