Community members say that there is a lot of police activity where a man was shot in an officer-involved shooting.

They say, they are use to crime in their neighborhood

Early tuesday morning.

The officer involved shooting took place in the parking lot of the tippecanoe county health department.

That's where we find news 18's meredith hackler.

She joins us now to break down what happened, meredith?

Jeff this afternoon the lafayette police department released the identity of the man who was shot and injured early this morning.

They say 29 year old trevor bowie raised a gun at two police officers and that is when hwas e who live in this neighborhood who say they aren't surprised something like this happened where they live.

This is video from the where 29e was shot by police... but the incident that led up to bowie's shooting actually took place about a block away on north 7th street.

"the officer met with a female complainant who said her boyfriend trevor bowie had allegedly stolen the hand gun and left before officers arrived."- gard after that, police were able to locate bowie on north 6th street where a short foot chase took place.

When bowie got to the tippecanoe county health department's parking lot - police say he raised his gun toward them.

"mr. bowie pointed a hand gun at officers two officers did fire their hand guns striking mr. bowie."- gard while police didn't say how many shots were fired..

People who live in the neighborhood say they heard around 4.

"my roommate came to wake to me up and was just like i just heard a shooting i'm pretty sure she described it as being four really rapid fire gunshot sounds and then i guess just like 7 or 8 cop cars just flew by."-kelsey smith lafayette resident.

People here say they are use to police activity in their neighborhood.

"i'm kind of use to it..

I mean i am behind the gate and the behind a locked door so i still feel pretty safe most of the time."-spencer reincke "being where we are downtown there are always interesting characters down here so i feel like it kind of just comes with the territory a little bit."- kelsey smith police say trevor bowie is in critical but stable condion at this time but would not say what hospital he was taken to.

No officers were injured during the shooting and the lafayette police department has not yet identified the twoo.
