.due to school closings throught the world pandemic.... children could see more online activities - which may expose them to internet predators.

News1's rain augustine spoke with law enforcement and parents about safety... "the problem is a lot of the technology is so far advanced from what the parents know and understand is ther's backdoors to a lot of these kid games and they do't understand that predator can contact them through a lot of these kiddie games."

A statement released by the fbi suggests that school closures due to covid-19 present the potential for an increased risks of computer exploitation.

"computer exploitation is anytime an adult tries to reach out to a minor via internet, via computer, with the reason of using them or trying to gain sometype of obsenity from them."

Louisiana state police officer thomas gossen explains i's important to make sure strict privacy settings are installed on web browsers.

"i would encourage people to have your children when they want to do these devices, or or the computer, have them in a common room.

Not in their bedroom or bathroom where the'll alone."

Educator and parent, janice taylor, jokingly discribes the increased at home time with her kids as a beautiful challenge.

"...some days 'm like i do't care what yo're learning as long as you are learning to leave me alone."

The mother of three says she utilizes the internet for her kids daily lesson plans, but carefully monitors all online activities "the're not in a school system where they have all those firewalls, all the things like that, so you just have to be an active parent and you have to actively monitor and engage with your kid' work."

Officer gossen exlains i's important for parents to keep an open line of communication and to immediately report suspecious behavior "discuss with your children the dangers of wha's out there, you know.

Let them understand what activities online, what might happen."

As for janice, she feels that taking precaustions to keep her kids safe from the internet is the least she can do "you invest what you expect out of your kids later on.

So imma invest in them because i expect greatness out of them later on so, thats it."
