Live: Silver Dollar Speedway holds race despite coronavirus concerns

Speedway was given the green light to hold its silver cup of champions race today despite coronavirus concerns and public health guidelines... action news now sports director vanessa romo is at the race with a look at how it's going.

The coronavirus hit the sports world hard this week... the n-b-a, m-l-b, n- hl and more have all suspended their seasons due to the coronavirus.... the california department of public health even released a mass gathering guidance saying large gatherings that include up to 250 people should be postponed or canceled.

But that's not stopping races at the silver dollar speedway.

A race is even going on right now and there are of people here tonight... i was told by speedway officials--- they will hold 250 people in each grand stand... there are three stands... those in the stands will have to be six feet apart --- per the california department of public health guidelines... and when those fill up they will start sending people to the pit.

The co-promoter of this speedway says--- he, racers and fans wanted it.

So they wanted to give it to them they're all eager to go and nobody seems to be worried about it at the same level that people are at the national level i kind of fall into that category myself.

I dont think that in an outdoor environment like this that it will have little effect.

The races have started here at speedway.

And this will be the last race until april as they have decided to shut down.
