Houston Mayor says a sidewalk project is to begin any day

The Houston Sidewalk Project 2020 is being halted by the recent rainfall according to Mayor Stacey Parker.

Many things that come along with this nasty rain are construction issues... wtvas amanda haley joins us in chickasaw county where houston city officials say the rain is halting a major project.

According to the mayor of houston, stacey parker, the sidewalks here in the pinson square have needed work for many years.

Parker says now the money is there....contractors are waiting for dry weather to start work.

Houston sidewalk project 2020 has been approved by the board and funded by the tourism council for about a month now...according to mayor parker.

Parker says the over $600,000 dollar project will include completely redoing the sidewalks along the west, north, and east sides of the square.

Parker says that the project is a push by community members and the houston tourism council to help bring more life to the downtown area.

But according to the mayor, nothing can happen with the project until there is a clear patch in the forecast.

"getting the sidewalk project to come to fruition has taken a little over a year now.

It is in the contractors hands now..not pointing fingers at them at getting it done..

It is the weather that is the issue.

According to mayor parker, it is up to the contractors to decide when they feel comfortable enough to begin work.

Parker says breaking down sidewalks when heavy rain is in the forecast could cause flooding issues for businesses nearby.
