This morning a family is without a place to live after a fire rips through their home.

It happened on debbie boulevard in madison county around one-thirty this morning.

A neighbor took a picture of the home burning.

We're told the family that lived there made it out safely -- but one of their pets died in the fire.

Waay 31's rodneya ross joins us live from that home where she's been all morning.

Rodneya -- are crews still there on scene?

Adlib if they're still there or not i spent time this morning talking to people who live in this neighborhood.

They told me the couple hasn't lived here long maybe just six months.

They tell me they're happy the couple made it out the home.

Take a look at the damage this fire caused.

A representative with the moores mill volunteer fire department told me the couple was inside the home sleeping when their dog started barking and woke them up.

When they got up -- the home was filled with smoke.

The fire department told me the couple had two cats in addition to the dog.

All three animals hid and one cat ended up dying.

The other two pets were taken to an emergency pet hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Right now the fire department says the cause will be undetermined because of the extent of damage inside the home.

But they do know the fire started in the garage.
