Police were called to reports of a serious assault in Pike Road, Plymouth, at around 4.40pm on Friday 12 March.

It is alleged a man aged in his 30s was assaulted with an axe.

He sustained serious head injuries, which are not currently believed to be life-threatening, and remains in hospital.

A 46-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of assault. He has been released on police bail until 9 April while enquiries continue.

It appears all parties are known to each other.
