Devon and Cornwall Police hold two virtual awards ceremonies

On 12 and 17 November 2020 Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer hosted the forces first two virtual Long Service Awards Ceremonies in order to celebrate the commitment and work from a number of colleagues across the force.

The two events were small but included recipients, colleagues and representatives from across the force.

On Thursday 12, citations were read by Sandy Brooks, Head of Contact Services and on Tuesday 17, citations were read by Superintendent Jo Hall.

*PC Lucy Tyler-Jones*

PC Lucy Tyler-Jones joined Devon and Cornwall police in January 2000 having trained at Cwmbran where she recalls being the only officer expressing a wish to join the Traffic Department.

Lucy began her career with the force based at Newton Abbot police station where she worked unto 2004 when she became a Core Skills Development Officer.

In 2006, Lucy joined the Launceston Roads Policing team where she also trained as a Police Advanced Driver with the additional responsibility to undertake tactical pursuit and containment of vehicles. Lucy is also qualified as a Family Liaison Officer, a sensitive and emotionally demanding role, in which she provides support for numerous families.

When the opportunity came in October 2008, to join the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit, Lucy moved into this role and became a Specialist Investigator in road traffic collisions where she remains working today, deeply committed to investigating collisions and working as part of the team.

*Richard Bullock*

Richard started with Devon and Cornwall Police in April 2000 as one of only two a Data Analysts producing performance information for the force. He was instrumental in developing the force capability around performance analysis and information management.

In 2008 Richard became the Force Performance Manager where he worked for many years before being promoted to Temporary Head of Performance in 2015.  

In 2017 he took responsibility for the change programme for Devon and Cornwall Police, which was managed through PRISM, a forum which co-ordinates all force change. Richard’s leadership brought clarity to this work, enabling our force to be at the forefront of new technology and innovation.

Richard became the Head of Alliance Business Change in January 2018, working across Devon and Cornwall Police and Dorset Police in planning, enabling and delivering change across both forces. This has included most recently the roll out of Body Worn Video, a new command and control system and enabling mobile working.

Richard has the natural ability to make the complex uncomplicated, a very much welcomed skill when working with both force Executives. Richard is a true professional; passionate and knowledgeable in his work, delivered with a blend of humour and calmness. He has consistently ensured both forces adapt and change successfully and are able to face the future with confidence.

*Chief Inspector Jane Alford-Mole*

Jane joined the police service later in life following her first career as an Air Stewardess. Jane originally joined British Transport Police in January 2000 and transferred to Devon and Cornwall Police in 2002. 

Following training, Jane took up a role as a PC in Stonehouse, Plymouth and later trained as a Family Liaison Officer providing specialist support to families in many cases including high profile murder cases.  

Throughout her career Jane has worked across all many areas of the force taking on roles including, Neighbourhood Sergeant post in East Cornwall, Response Sgt in Plymouth, Neighbourhood Team lead in Exeter, East and Mid Devon and then as Sector Inspector in Mid Devon.

Jane has used British Sign Language since a young working age and has developed strong links with the deaf community. This has enabled her to support other officers in interpreting and this has been a real asset especially when communicating with deaf victims. She was key in developing volunteers, supporting Specials and Street Pastors within the Evening Night Time Economy.   

Jane is currently Acting Superintendent for Head of Contact, working force wide. Her loyalty to the organisation and her community has been outstanding and this has never changed since she joined the service.
