Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted with a broken bottle in Bideford.

The incident happened in Mill Street, close to the Co-op store, around 8.45pm on 9 July.

A man was struck on the arm with the bottle after an argument with another man. The victim, in his 20s, sustained a serious cut to his arm.

The suspect then allegedly subjected bystanders to racially abusive remarks.

A 28-year-old man from Barnstaple has been arrested on suspicion of assault GBH with intent and racially aggravated public order. He has been released on bail until 6 August.

Police would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident in Mill Street or overheard any of the words shouted.
