'Parade'

*Jacob Banks* has always felt things deeply.

It's part of what makes him such a potent artist - that ability to dig down into himself, and excavate those true emotions.

That soulful honesty, though, has been pushed to its limit by the pandemic, and by the events of 2020.

Watching the huge anti-racism protests across the UK, he was moved to write new song 'Parade' - a piece that dwells on anger, sadness, and empowerment.

The Nigerian born explores identity in his songwriting, with 'Parade' allowing him a chance to bring these threads into one powerful whole.

“I hoped to experience a sense of pride or whatever, but I didn’t experience any of that,” he recalls of those protests. “I felt defeated by the fact we still have to do this after all of these years. We’re all risking our lives with the pandemic out there.”

“However, it turned around in my head. No matter how hard it gets for the oppressed, civilization still doesn’t move without our consent. It was fascinating to me. I found power in it. Society requires those who stand up on the frontline and march. It needs all of the marginalized and disenfranchised groups, so get on board or get used to it.”


Fuzzed out blues with a 21st century slant, 'Parade' has a powerful resonance, something born out by the full video. Starring the wonderful multi-hyphenate Kojey Radical, it makes for a powerful watch.
