Luxury brand will offer workers voluntary redundancy, report claims, with official confirmation due today

Bentley will cut 1000 jobs in the UK, around a quarter of its workforce, BBC News is reporting.

The report suggests workers will be offered the chance to take voluntary redundancy. There has yet to be any official confirmation, but the BBC claims a formal announcement will be made later today.

The company, owned by Volkswagen and based in Crewe, Cheshire, furloughed a quarter of its employees during the coronavirus lockdown, with another quarter working from home.

Production restarted production on May 11th, but it is claimed around half of the usual number of staff are actually working.

Bentley completed a turnaround plan to ensure profitability during 2019, its centenary year. Global sales increased by 5% to 11,000 cars. Expect more information to follow later today.
