A wabash valley mother is holding her kids tighter tonight after a terrifying experience.

A car... crashing into their home... one child -- thrown into the yard.

We begin tonight with a story out a clay county.

A family -- awoken in the night -- when a driver crashed into their home.

New for you tonight at 6... news 10's richard solomon spoke with the family.

He takes us through what they say happened and why they're thankful.

One local family says this is what's left of their home after a car crashed into the side of it.

You can see the damage on the outside... the house pushed back and separated from the porch.

But it's worse on the inside.

Glass is shattered... furniture is tipped upside down.

The family says thankfully everyone inside is ok.

"i could've lost everyone..in the matter of 3 minutes.."

As they step over broken shards of glass..

"nats" georgia hyer and jerick hayden are trying to figure out what's next... "you just think it's never going to happen to you.

" hyer says the family was enjoying a movie on friday night.

The kids fell asleep on the couch..

Hyer says not even 30 minutes after she laid down...she heard a powerful noise that shook the entire home.

"i remember running down the hallway..

And i started yelling the kids the kids cause is saw the headlights" the couple says an impaired woman drove into the side of their house.

But hyer says that wasn't the scariest part..

"i saw brently on the floor and i looked on the couch and avi wasn't there..i..i honestly thought i was going to lift something up and see like avi lifeless."

Hyer says the car's impact was so powerful..her 3 year old was shot out the window..and landed outside.

3 stiches to her head..

And a few bruises and cuts...little avi is ok..

I reached out to the clay county sheriffs department.

They couldn't give me the driver's name or say if she's facing any charges right now.

You can see in the video..the house was knocked off it's foundation.

Hyer says she's thankful they can all walk away.

"life can change in the blink of an eye and hold your babies a lot closer than what you think you need to do."

The family says they're staying with family and friends until they can get back on their feet.
