Students throughout the new hartford school district started their first day back to school virtually.

New hartford assistant superintendent allen hyde talked about how the district is addressing one of the concerns screen time.

None sot: allen hyde, new hartford assistant superintendent we do have concerns from our parents about the amount of screen time, so we have worked throughout the spring and into the summer to provide opportunities for our teachers to create a balance of synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities.

6th grader xavier obernesser has been enjoying the down time.

There are screen breaks that allow students time to get up and move around, but he's still a little uneasy abouthow w hartford 6th grader it's hard because you don't know their personality or anything.

But allen hyde believes the students will make a connection and adapt to the online learning.

Sot: allen hyde, new hartford assistant superintendent our teachers will be able to deliver a rigorous curriculum to our students and they will be able to engage our students in order to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of all of our students k-12.

But will the school be able to deliver on the social and emotional needs of the students?

6th grader marlo griffith isn't convinced&yet.

Sot: marlo griffith, 6th grader it's been odd, but it's been more fun here because if i'm in class i can't talk, and then if i'm home i don't have anybody to talk to, and if i talk to my sistewe'd get introue technical issues that are being resolved, but the district is confident in the teacher's abilities to deliver everything students will require.

Sot: allen hyde, new hartford assistant superintendent we have provided our teachers with a plethora of opportunities to learn about the best practices that revolve around remotelearns working to phase in a hybrid school schedule over the next six weeks.
