Monument.

We want to turn our attention back to tonight's gathering for another minute now.

It ended peacefully but not all participants went home happy.

Waay 31's max co-han joins us live to explain why.

Max..

Tonight's event brought local officials, law enforcement and community members together to help move the community forward.

Mayor tommy battle says events where the community has access to him are crucial in that effort.

"it's very important to be able to talk to people, to understand people, understand where they're coming from.

What they're looking for.

As we do that, we get better."

But not everyone felt today was a success.

A portion of the crowd was upset that officials didn't address last wednesday's protests and law enforcement's response.

Viewing this evening's event as a p-r stunt they broke off during the march and chanted no apology, no unity.

"our group was there wednesday and we arrived today hoping for an apology of some sorts, maybe an acknowledgemen t from local leadership that what they had done was wrong.

They refused and danced around that every step of the way.

After that, we we're just kind of fed up.

Mayor battle says the city will be laying out some plans next week, though roberts says he can't hope for much feeling let down this far.

Reporting live from big spring park, max cohan, waay 31 news.

Thanks max.

Mayor battle said everything the city tries to do is in an effort to improve -- noting that past events have resulted in body cameras and implicit bias training.
