Utica School Board holds budget hearing

Prior to this evening's scheduled school board meeting to prepare for the upcoming 2020-2021 school budget vote.

Due to restrictions still in place because of the coronavirus, the meeting was live- streamed on the utica city school district's website.

The proposed $186.6 million budget will increase spending by .26 percent with no tax increases or layoffs.

If it fails to pass, school officials say the district has three options.

"we can resubmit the original budget.

We can submit a revised budget, which is normally the third tuesday in june, but we're still waiting for guidance as to when that will actually be, or we can immediately adopt a contingency budget."

The public was given a chance to comment on the budget by email, but nobody did so.

The vote on the school budget is scheduled for june 9th, but due to the coronavirus restrictions still in place, the voting will have to be done by absentee ballot, as it will for all schools.
