Restaurants face challenges as state allows re-opening

Although Governor Tate Reeves is easing restrictions on dine-in restaurants, the industry as a whole faces an uphill battle.

To re-open, industries are having to take a look at their long term prospects in terms of how they serve their customers.

One of these industries is the restaurant industry.

Executive director of the mississippi hospitality and restaurant association pat fontaine addressed the columbus rotary today regarding the current state of the restaurant industry.

He said that even with restaurants re-opening, it is going to be a long road ahead for owners.

According to fontaine, restaurants are facing issues with capital like is operating at 50 percent even worth opening....issues regarding employees, will they come back to work?

And of course, consumers, will they feel comfortable eating out in public again.

At the end of his zoom call, he expressed hope that the industry will make it through these tough times.

I'm confident that many of our favorite restaurants and the dishes that we enjoy so much they will return, we are an industry of problem solvers, we deal with a variety of problems each and every day, from a broken dishwasher to a food delivery not being made, so simply give us time we will figure it out.

A few of the ways fontaine said restaurants could adjust will be catering more events, trimming down menu offerings, and shifting their business to be more mobile like turning their restaurants into food trucks.
