British civic employee
Andy Byford is a British-born civic employee who served as the president of the New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) from January 2018 until February 21, 2020, and is going to become Commissioner of Transport for London on June 29. Prior to his appointment in New York City, Byford was the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) from 2011 to 2017. During his tenure at the TTC, he was credited for bringing several changes in the system, including service improvements and system modernizations. He was formerly the chief operating officer for RailCorp in New South Wales, Australia and worked in a number of managerial positions with London Underground.
