This is the emotional moment a music lover proposed to his girlfriend at the government's pilot music festival - while watching their favourite band.Jimmy Overill, 27, popped the question to his girlfriend of seven years Ria Griffiths, 26, during the opening song of Blossoms' set in Liverpool on Sunday (2 May).More than 5,000 people packed into a tent in Sefton Park in the city to see a triple-bill music event headlined by the five-piece indie outfit from Stockport.But the loved-up couple stole the show when Jimmy got down on one knee to ask Ria to marry him as the band struck up the first few chords of their tune Your Girlfriend.Jimmy, a housing development manager, said: "Ria's been going on at me for more than a year, but I had been putting it off."I had lots of random ideas of where to propose but Ria's not into big over-the-top gestures."When I knew this gig was happening, it just fell into place and as soon as I got the tickets I shot down to her mum and dad's to ask for permission."The ring was a family heirloom passed down from her nan."The pair, who met as students in 2013, bonded over their shared love of the band and even play their music to their 11-month-old daughter Calla over breakfast.They have seen the group perform at Glastonbury and at Stockport County's football ground.When they managed to get hold of tickets for the special gig - used to trial large-scale events with no social distancing measures - Jimmy hatched a plan to pop the question.Jimmy, originally from East London, added: "We moved to Liverpool to do our masters.
We had a tiny little flat in town and used to play their music all the time."When Ria was pregnant with Calla, their album Foolish Loving Spaces was the only one we played.
We used the acoustic part of the album to get Calla to sleep."Our favourite song is Fourteen and I was going to wait until that came on to propose, but it's a bonus track so I didn't want to risk them not playing it and having to wait all night."I'd have ended up proposing in the queue for a taxi home."They opened with Your Girlfriend which I thought was quite appropriate so I proposed then so we could enjoy the rest of the gig as a couple."There was never any doubt Ria would say yes, but Jimmy had a nervous moment when he looked down and couldn't see the ring in the box - because she already had it on her finger.He added: "There's a bit in the video where I look down in the box and the ring isn't there - I was panicking for a minute."I'd been researching what finger it needs to go on because I didn't want to mess it up and she'd grabbed it before I could even put it on her finger."Proud Liverpudlian Ria, a project manager, said she had 'absolutely no clue' Jimmy was going to propose and she was so excited she put the ring on the wrong hand.She said: "I was just so excited, I was trying to get the ring on as soon as possible."I put it on the wrong finger at first and didn't notice for more than an hour."Everyone has been so lovely with their messages."It was just amazing to be part of a gig again.
It felt very normal very quickly and for Jimmy to propose was just the icing on the cake."Jimmy posted a video to Twitter with the caption: "We listened to @BlossomsBand back in our little student flat when we first met, seen them live everywhere from Stockport to Glastonbury and are now playing them to our baby girl every day over breakfast. "So it was only right we started our next chapter at their Liverpool gig."The band retweeted the video and added: "This is what it's all about."Jimmy said the lads have been in touch privately via Twitter to offer their congratulations.He added: "They've been real gents about it.
They dropped us a message and congratulated us. "We've been blown away by the reaction.
Originally it was going to be a personal moment but I bumped into my mates when Ria went to the toilet and I asked them to film it."We only put a video up because it is a way of letting our friends know we'd got it engaged.
