Tick awareness in Bidwell Park

The Lyme Center had a booth at Horseshoe Lake in Chico's Upper Bidwell Park so that volunteers could provide information on ticks to hikers.

The lyme center had a booth in upper bidwell park today to inform people about tick awareness.

Volunteers there say since it is the start of spring it is prime tick season..

They say you should spray yourself with deet before going on hikes or where ticks are..

They also suggest spraying boots and pants with permethrim.

They also say to tuck your pants in your socks and shirts into pants..

But say if you get a tick -- you should go to the doctor and get antibiotics to try and get ahead of possible lyme's disease.

"if you find a tick on you say you have been bitten by it.

Regardless of if you get a rash contact your doctor and get on antibiotics.

The length of time you will be on antibiotics will be different depending on if you get the rash."

They also suggest putting clothes in the dryer for ten minutes when you get home... and to take a hot shower and check for ticks
