A STRETCH OF WINCHESTER ROAD IN LEXINGTON HAS REOPENED AFTER BEING CLOSED EARLIER BECAUSE OF A TWO-ALARM FIRE.

Abc 36's monica harkins takes you to the scene.

"monica: firefighters say it took more than 50 firefighters, on the scene, to battle the fire right here at this building."

When emergency crews arrived around 11-30 friday morning at the old oasis club...which investigators say is no longer in business..the fire was already blazing...crews say the only reason firefighters knew there was a fire because they say a police officer saw smoke while driving-by...meaning firefighters had to play catch up.

Saas: "you have to think that the fire had time to start, had time to grow and then grow big enough to be noticed."

The smoke cloud was so big it was visible from new circle during its peak.

A ladder truck was on standby in case crews had to act defensively...but it wasn't needed.

The neighboring buildings weren't severely damaged.

Investigators are still looking into how it happened.
