More city funding needs to go into the fire department and other city facilities.

The president of the charleston firefighters association says he was there when the odor was detected.

He is one of the firefighters displaced at the gilliard center in downtown charleston.

While he says the situation is temporary, he says the city needs to make some changes.

Increased budgets to the fire department and to, you know, parks in the facility so that our department can move forward and start building state-of-the-art firehouses or the city that's growing at rapid rate.

Rachel: the chairman of the public safety said spoken about long-term capital improvement plans and other improvements are being made to other city of charleston fire stations.
