Gov. Ivey declares Feb. 22 as Supermarket Employee Day
New at four -- gratitude for grocery store workers.
Today - governor kay ivey officially declared today as "supermarket employee day."
The governor joined top grocers at the state capitol to proclaim this new holiday in alabama.
The governor hopes the next time you shop, you thank the workers that have been on the frontlines during the pandemic keeping the stores open.
"goodness knows a lot of people have been working remotely from home during covid, but our grocery store workers can't do that.
They have to get up and go to work and be there and keep our shelves stocked and the store supplied so i'm just grateful to be a part of this exciting day.
" today's proclamation honors the over 70- thousand alabamians who are employed by the food retail industry.
It contributes 12-billion dollars
