Here despite the here despite the ongoing pandemic.

Over in newburgh... the sea creatures are continuing to swim as they have for the last 50 years..

But right now because of covid-19... the organization is in need of assistance to keep afloat.

Andrew garcia has that story.

For 5 decades, the newburgh sea creatures has been in existence as a competitive swim team as well as a way to teach people how to swim.

Whenever this new pool was built, we definitely wanted to be able to honor that.

Because this, i'm referring to the pool right back here, at the castle high school natatorium, this has been our home for quite some time now.

However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the sea creatures, like other organizations and businesses across the united states, have been impacted greatly.

We have no facility space or facility to be able to utilize for those programs. we do not know whenever the newburgh sea creatures are going to be able to utilize the castle high school natatorium again, so, the thought for us being here until the spring is that the outdoor pools can open up again, maybe we can utilize a pool such as hartke, or maybe such as a rolling hills country club pool and at that time we can return to operating close to the black.

We ran 3 separate financial projections and a couple of these financial projections were based on likely scenarios that would occur and there were a couple of those that did have us running out of the funds needed to continue operations.

And if you would like to help keep the sea creatures swimming, there are multiple ways in which you can help out.

We need to be able to have this for this community and for southern indiana.

We've taught over 1,000 kids how to swim in this area and 500 of those were within the past 5 years.

We really kicked up our services in that area because we felt like we owed it to this community to be able to do that.
