Friday, december 4th.

A nearly 26-hour police stand-off ended peacefully this afternoon.

Since news 10 midday ..

We've learned the suspect is in police custody.

The stand-off happened at the best western hotel in clay county, indiana.

This is just off of interstate 70.

We first told you about the situation yesterday on news 10 midday.

News 10's bri shackelford was there.

She explains what happened.

Bri: the situation started thursday morning.

That's when police tried to serve a warrant for someone at the hotel.

[take: mug] use mug pic her} today, we learned that person is shannon jeffers.

His warrant was from vigo county for "probation violation."

That's on original charges of possession of methamphetamine and a felon in possession of a firearm.

Use scene vo her} police say they went to his room and announced their presence.

That's when they say jeffers fired one shot through the door at officers.

By late morning on thursday ..

Police had evacuated the hotel.

Police continued speaking with jeffers..

And were able to get two people safely out of his room.

Negotiations continued throughout the day.

Around 1 this morning ..

Police say they used "tear gas ..

Flash bangs ..

And pepper balls" to try to get jeffers to comply.

During that time, officers say ..

Jeffers fired towards officers again.

Around 12-30 this afternoon, he peacefully surrended.

When we come to these situations.

We have to make sure officers and everyone in the area is safe.

The clay county prosecutor says jeffers will face an attempted murder charge.
