Bryan Station and Dunbar clashing in region championship

LEXINGTON, Ky (WTVQ) - On Friday, a region championship will be won and a ticket will be punched to semi-state.

Here in Lexington, Bryan Station will host Dunbar for the title.

Last season, Bryan Station only had three wins, but now they have won 1-straight games.

To 49.

This week's high school highlight reel game of the week features two teams from lexington...bryan station and dunbar.

One has turned the program around...but it took awhile.

The other has turned it around in what feels like over night.

When wes johnson took over the dunbar bulldogs...they were winless.

They won 3 games in his first year.

7 games last year and then in a covid- shortened season they won 6.

Now they look for that 7th win again and a region title on friday against station.

Coach johnson believes tasting success last year made his team hungry.

I've said it multiple times...what phil hawkins has done at bryan station is amazing.

The defenders won c1 3 three games last season.

After dropping their first game this season by a point....they have rattled off 10 straight wins.

That's more wins than the last three seasons combined.

Hawkins says he set the tone when he was hired in february.
