You're taking a live look at the state health department's covid-19 school dashboard.

Many north alabama districts are hovering in the lighter colors - meaning they have between 5 and 35 active cases.

But - you can see huntsville city, the largest school district in north alabama, is a shade darker.

According to the dashboard - the district has 39 new cases this week.

In a few hours - another school in the district will begin remote learning.

Waay 31's sierra phillips is live this morning at jemison high school - which is now the fifth to switch to online learning until after thanksgiving.

Sierra?

Exactly - now jemison is just the latest school that won't have students walking through its front doors this morning.

According to the district's dashboard - someone who tested positive for coronavirus was last on campus less than 48 hours ago!

The dashboard doesn't say whether that person was a teacher or student - just that the last time they were in the school before testing positive was tuesday.

Jemison currently has 5 active coronavirus cases and 31 people in quarantine.

The district said a mix of factors led them to switch jemison to remote learning - including the availability of substutute teachers.

The school will now be remote for the rest of the week.

And next week all huntsville city schools will have virtual learning days before thanksgiving break.

Students and staff are currently set to be back on campus for traditional learning starting november 30th.
