More north mississippians are turning to home schooling their kids because of the coronavirus.

Wtva's wayne hereford talked with one parent today who says it is a great alternative for families.

He has more in tupelo where he talked to that parent about homeschooling during the pandemic.

"we started homeschooling because when i first went to school, it wasn't like it was when we went to school.

When we went to school there were teachers who were concerned about our well-being."

Toni hill says that she started homeschooling her kids when she first tried to enroll her daughter out of state.

" i have four children two that have already graduated .

One who graduated last year .

And two more to go.

I would say two down and two more to go."

Now she says with the coronavirus pandemic, she is glad to have them at home.

"nothing has changed.

The only thing that has changed is those in-person things that they used to do with their friends and stuff they are not able to do the same way.

Our kids are really big into archery .archery has not been active yet they are working on a place that they can do that and have social distancing and all that."

Toni hill says the homes chool movement has caught on in north mississippi.

We even found one school operating out of the link center in tupelo.

They were not interested in an interview.
